Writing On The River - 2009
Fishtrap’s first “Writing on the River” program, a 5 day writing workshop combined with a raft trip down the Snake River, was a great inaugural event – so much so that we are already planning the second trip, to be held August 26-31, 2010.
Our group of three rafts – two for people, one for gear – put in at Hells Canyon Dam, and floated past towering walls of basalt, grassy flats with old cabins, and inviting river eddies where we all took turns playing in inflatable kayaks. We passed safely through a handful of rapids where the foam from the waves cooled us down, and relaxed on placid sections of the river.

Each day we ate fabulous food provided by our competent crew, and had ample oppportunities to go on short hikes to explore the Oregon and Idaho shores. Mornings and evenings, we assembled with snacks and libations to write in response to prompts provided by our faculty, Pramila Jayapal and Laura Pritchett.

We will begin accepting registrations for the 2010 trip soon. Feel free to email us at director@fishtrap.org if you want to be put on the list, and we will contact you when we are ready to start promoting that trip.
We’d like to thank Winding Waters River Expeditions for a wonderful trip. We look forward to working with Paul, Penny, Morgan, Jon, Patrick and everyone else at Winding Waters in 2010.
